This is an oval shaped bowl with open handles made by the factory of Erdmann Schlegelmilch of Suhl, Prussia (Germany). The Erdmann factory was established in 1861 while the Reinhold Schlegelmilch factory, which used the RS Prussia mark, was established in 1869 - production was similar from either factory, although Reinhold Schlegelmilch produced more. The Erdmann Schlegelmilch factory was closed in 1937. The dish is hand painted with black birds surrounded by black ferns and pink flowers. It is marked on its underside with the early ES mark used from 1861 until 1891. It is also hand inscribed with 3830 Depon. The piece measures 12 by 8 with a height of 2 1/8 at the handles. It is in very good condition - a tiny bit of paint wear to one of the birds and a surface spider craze to the underside of the dish near the mark, not at all visible on the top side. This is a wonderful old piece with decoration not typical of pieces of this age - unique display piece!
